香港—佩斯画廊(Pace Gallery)去年宣布将于香港增设第二个空间,并以日本艺术家奈良美智(Yoshitomo Nara)的个展作为新空间揭幕首秀。日前,佩斯画廊正式确认,「奈良美智:陶瓷作品及其他」将于2018年3月27日展出至5月12日,这是艺术家在佩斯全球的第四次个展。此次盛事将与2018年香港巴塞尔博览会同期举办,呈现艺术家最新创作的陶瓷雕塑、绘画及纸上小作,延续这位开创性的当代艺术家在表达与形式上的创新手法。 佩斯画廊宣布将在位于中环H Queen’s的香港第二空间举办日本艺术家奈良美智的个展,以他的一系列新作为该新空间拉开序幕。展览以12个新的陶土雕塑奠定基调。这些作品制作于日本信乐,该地区不仅是日本历史最源远的陶乡之一,也是奈良美智重新开始创作的地方。为了兼顾形式与材质,奈良将对体积的考量与粘土的美学品质相关联,以促成二者之间的对话。他更进一步地从他对自然与人类直率的观察中汲取灵感,并混合二者,以暗示人类心理表达的情绪范围:既有坚定的、沉思的,也有倦怠的、狡黠的,均在这些作品中得以呈现。 此次展览中展出的数件雕塑新作将在展出结束后前往台湾,参展于2018年9月7日至2019年3月3日举办的陶瓷双年展。 在绘画新作中,艺术家延续了他令人熟知的单人形象,并进一步对创作进行钻研。通过善用丙烯颜料较之油彩更为轻薄的质地,反复地添加和去除画作上的颜料,奈良美智得以逐步抵达他所要呈现的最终效果:由悬浮状的色彩肌理所构成的画布令画中的人物从层叠的色彩中显现出来,邀请观者驻足于画前,并进入片刻的沉思。而对于纸上作品,艺术家则提供了一种更倾向于叙事性的手法。这些生动的铅笔线条刻画着每一个瞬间及人物,以极富表现力的风格进行光线、阴影、静止与运动的实验。 奈良美智自述:陶瓷雕塑、纸本绘画与绘画 布面绘画承载了重要的使命感,事实上这对我而言并非易事。我尝试通过享受表面色彩与构图元素的变化来减轻负担,但即便如此,我发现我仍然需要在思考后采取行动,而不是靠感觉行事。基本上可以说,我并非天生适合绘画。这么说可能会让我们一无所剩,但是出于一些原因,我还是继续画下去了。我自己也好奇…… 好,撇开我个人的担忧不说,我们来谈谈这些随笔和雕塑作品。我拿起一只铅笔,就能自然而然地诞生这些纸本绘画,并且完全忠实于彼时彼刻的感受。但这样一种「顺产」在绘画的时候就很难有。对我来说,绘画作品来之不易,它们只能被有心地「创造」出来,无法依靠本能完成。这也是我之前会说绘画过程是充满各种各样的担心和痛苦的原因。这些随笔仿佛是一场无痛分娩,它们本能地被创造,就像呼吸一样,不需要考虑成败。 因此每当我绘画过程进展不顺的时候,是这些随笔鼓舞着我把自己的艺术家生涯坚持下来。不过自从我大约10年前初次接触到陶土之后,陶土对我而言就变成了介于绘画和随笔之间的创作媒介。尤其是陶艺制作中某种积极的让步,让我可以肆意完成创作,并接受烧制过后可能比我可控范围更好或是更糟的成品,这真的感觉很好。我想或许正是由于陶土区别于其它可控的雕塑材料的特性,反而令其成为了我艺术生涯中最重要的邂逅之一。 最近我意识到,陶土比铅笔还要自由。一个蹒跚学步的婴儿在学会握笔和描画之前,会先学会怎样抓握、挤压、放松、再次抓握。相比使用铅笔和笔刷一类的工具,用双手直接进行创作是一个更原始的天性。这次展出的是一些介于自由与限制之间的手工陶土作品,以及为它们提供理念支撑的纸本绘画手稿。当然还有我经由不断地忧虑和挣扎后创作而成的绘画新作。我相信我那藉由在绘画创作的艰难时刻一直支撑我的纸本绘画随笔而维持着的艺术意识(或者说,我的自我意识),已经通过陶土制作而又有所提升了。
