SÃO PAULO—Since its first edition in 2005, Verbo Performance Art Festival has sought to present a comprehensive panorama of performance art through programming actions of Brazilian and foreign artists with different backgrounds and ages acting in fields other than the visual arts. The objective is to enlarge the concept of performance art inherited from the 20th century by programming actions by artists and groups active in the field of the visual arts, but also in dance, theater, poetry and literature, music, graffiti and activism. Because of this, a priori curatorial selection has never been the determining factor.
However, for Verbo 2018 it has become opportune to define a conceptual ground creating a reflection focusing on the current moment of ethical conflict characterizing life in Brazil and the world. At times like today, art is a powerful tool of resistance against the growing wave of obscurantism that permeates and affects all areas of life.
With this in mind, artists in the fields of visual arts, dance, literature, music and fashion, as well as those engaged in investigations materializing in the format of photographs, videos or texts may participate in the selection of projects for the 2018 edition of Verbo.

The selection will be done by the dance artist, university professor and researcher, PhD in Communication and Semiotics, Ana Teixeira, and Marcos Gallon, artistic director of Verbo.
