Phillips Academy seeks an Instructor in Art/Photo beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year. Candidates must be prepared to teach students at every level in this four-year residential high school. Specific teaching assignments in the art department will comprise three or four course sections, most likely with two or three preparations. Courses will include elective photo courses, foundations courses, and, depending on the candidate’s breadth of expertise, courses in other areas such as drawing, design, or video. We seek dynamic candidates who will be active participants in the academic, athletic, and residential programs, and who have the following qualifications:

•  Experience (an advanced degree or equivalent experience in art or a related field)

•  University level and/or high school teaching experience, preferably three years beyond teaching assistantships

•  Competency in digital and darkroom photography

•  An active exhibition record and portfolio

We are looking for a creative candidate who has an innovative and creative practice and can inspire students with a range of abilities and experiences. The foundation course is open to ninth grade students and includes a range of media with a focus on artistic thinking, visual vocabulary, and the relationship of making and thinking. The photo courses include digital photography and hybrid digital/darkroom processes.
